Emergency medical travel insurance for non-residents of Canada travelling within Canada.

Yes, depending on the plan limit chosen, this insurance can provide the necessary one year Canadian medical insurance coverage of $100,000 needed from a Canadian insurance company.

Coverage under this Policy begins on the latest of the following:

  • Your Departure Date;
  • Your Policy purchase date; or
  • The effective date shown on Your Policy Confirmation.

Benefits under this Policy are subject to the following conditions: 

  • if Your Start Date is Your Departure Date, You must be scheduled to arrive in Canada within 48 hours after Youleave Your Home Country. If You are scheduled to arrive in Canada more than 48 hours after You leave Your Home Country, coverage only begins on the date and time You arrive in Canada;
  • if Your Start Date is after Your Departure Date, the following Waiting Periods will apply: 
    • 24 hours for an Injury;
    • 48 hours for a Sickness if Your Start Date is within 30 days of Your Departure Date;
    • 48 hours for a Sickness if You are continuing coverage from an existing policy with no gap in coverage;
    • 7 days for a Sickness if Your Start Date is more than 30 days from Your Departure Date.

On the earliest of the following:

  • The date You cancel your insurance;
  • The date you become eligible for coverage under any Canadian federal, provincial or territorial government health insurance plan;
  • The date you return to your home country; or
  • The Expiry Date as shown on your policy confirmation document.

Yes. You can purchase coverage for your family at a special family rate! To calculate the rate, simply multiply the oldest adult’s rate by 2.

Yes. Full refunds are available if you cancel your policy within 10 days of purchase provided it is prior to the start date of your period of coverage. After this 10 day review period, you can still receive partial refunds less an administration fee charged by Royal Travel Insurance Services Ltd. There is no administrative fee charged when you cancel your policy due to a denial of your visa application.

A Super Visa allows parents/grandparents of Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents to stay in Canada for up to 2 years at a time. It allows them to travel freely between Canada and their country of residence without the worry and hassle of regularly re-applying for a Temporary Resident Visa.

A Super Visa can be renewed for up to 10 years, with multiple entries allowed during the entire time period.

To be eligible to purchase the Classic or Deluxe Plan, the following restrictions apply: 

  • You must not have a Medical Condition for which a Physician has advised You against travel prior to Your Period of Coverage.
  • You must be over 14 days old and under 85 years on the start date.
  • You must not be eligible for benefits under any Canadian federal, provincial or territorial government health insurance plan.
  • Prior to Your Period of Coverage:
    • You have not been diagnosed with a Terminal Sickness;
    • You have never been diagnosed with or received Treatment for:
      • congestive heart failure;
      • Alzheimer’s or any type of dementia;
      • pancreatic or liver cancer, or any type of metastasized cancer; or
      • a condition requiring a bone marrow or organ transplant.
    • You do not reside in a nursing home, assisted living home, convalescent home, hospice or rehabilitation centre;
    • You do not require any assistance with Normal Daily Activities. Normal Daily Activities means eating, bathing, use of a toilet, getting in and out of a bed or chair, and dressing (does not apply to children under 12 years of age)
  • In the 12 months immediately prior to Your Period of Coverage, You have not been diagnosed with or received Treatment for:
    • a lung condition requiring the use of home oxygen;
    • a kidney condition requiring dialysis.
  • At time of purchase of this Policy, You have no knowledge of the need to require any medical Treatment during Your Period of Coverage.

If you decide to extend your period of coverage after arrival in Canada, contact your agent. We will extend your coverage under this policy beyond your expiry date, as long as:

  • You have not incurred a claim under this policy;
  • You agree that expenses related to Medical Conditions present on the date you apply for an extension will not be covered by this policy;
  • Coverage under this policy is in force at the time you request an extension; and
  • You pay any additional required premium for such extension.

Note: In no event can coverage be extended for a period exceeding 18 months from your original Start Date.

Both the Classic and Deluxe plan are available to visitors to Canada, immigrants, and Canadians who are not otherwise eligible under any Canadian federal, provincial or territorial government health insurance plan. Both plans are available to individuals ages 15 days old to 84 years old on the start date.

Please review your policy carefully for name, date of birth and coverage amount. Keep it with you at all times.

Only the Deluxe Plan offers coverage for side trips. Under the Deluxe Plan, side trips of no more than 45 days are covered so long as they begin in Canada and your total stay in Canada is greater than the time spent on your side trip. No coverage is provided for side trips taken to your home country. At the time of any claim, your accumulated stay in Canada during the Period of Coverage must be more than 50% of your accumulated coverage days.

Under the Deluxe Plan, pre-existing conditions may be covered for ages 69 and under; the following restriction applies:

  • For ages 69 and under on the Start Date of the policy, the Pre-Existing Condition or Medical Condition was Stable and Controlled during the 120 day period immediately prior to Your Start Date.

Stable and Controlled means the Medical Condition is not worsening and there has been no alteration in any medication for the condition or its usage or dosage, nor any Treatment, prescribed or recommended by a Physician or received within the time period specified in this Policy, prior to Your Start Date.

Treatment means any medical, therapeutic or diagnostic procedure prescribed, performed or recommended by a Physician including but not limited to prescribed medication, investigative testing and surgery.

Under the Classic Plan, there is no pre-existing conditions coverage.
